HT-A9 is Sony’s most expensive speaker system with 4 wireless speakers that connect to create surround sound and cost 48.5 million VND.
While Samsung pursues a soundbar that combines two satellite speakers for surround sound on the Q950A, Sony uses the same four cylindrical speakers for the same solution. All four have the same design and function, are placed in four corners depending on space and are controlled and connected wirelessly to the central unit.
Sony’s new system uses dual microphones in each speaker to analyze the relative heights and positions of the speakers to provide spatially appropriate simulated settings. The product uses 360 Spatial Sound Mapping technology to create 12 virtual speakers from 12 real drivers located in four physical speakers. Sound is played directly or bounced off ceilings and walls for temporary surround sound effects.
Each single speaker uses an Omnidirectional Block design with a cylindrical block, playing music around the body. Particularly, the back is flat to place close to the wall. Inside each speaker, two rectangular X-Balanced drivers are integrated to maximize the diaphragm area, creating sound pressure for better bass.
The control box is about the size of a set-top-box, connecting to the TV via HDMI. The user will set up the speaker through the TV screen. The system is compatible with Sony TVs through the Easy Setup installer. HT-A9 also supports connecting and listening to music via Chromecast, AirPlay 2 or Spotify Connect, compatible with Google Assistant, Amazon Alexa.
In addition to the HA-A9, Sony also introduced the HT-A7000 soundbar line, a direct competitor of the Samsung Q950A. Sony’s system is 7.1.2 channels while Samsung’s is 11.1.4 channels. However, Sony’s products support Google Assistant and Alexa, while Samsung’s models only have simple connections to Chromecast, AirPlay 2 or Spotify Connect.
The HT-A7000 supports vertical installation, emulating sound from above but without the need to mount speakers to the ceiling. Inside there are two ceiling speakers, two horizontal beam tweeters, five front speakers and a dual subwoofer in the center. The two audio technologies Vertical Surround Engine and S-Force Ppro Front Surround on the HT-A9 are also available on the A7000.
Sony HT-A9 is priced at $2.100 while HT-A7000 is $1.400.
